SAN JUAN, PR – Abarca, a pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) that is disrupting the industry with an entirely new approach to technology and business practices, and Molina Healthcare Puerto Rico, a locally operated subsidiary of Molina Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE: MOH), announced today that they have entered into a two-year agreement to offer Medication Therapy Management (MTM) services to Molina’s Members. This service will be powered by Abarca’s Darwin RxTarget™ clinical module, which will focus on key quality measures to improve access to preventive care.

The program will allow Molina’s members to comply with higher generic dispensing rates; increase adherence to formulary drugs; and improve medication adherence for people who have diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, depression, rheumatoid arthritis, and other chronic conditions. Additionally, the program includes targeted safeguards to reduce opioid overutilization.

Enhanced RxTarget™ Program
Abarca officially announced earlier this week some additional enhancements to the RxTarget™ program, including a reward-for-performance component for pharmacies. This initiative is powered by Darwin, Abarca’s more innovative PBM platform, and managed through a clinical module of the same name.
While traditional direct and indirect remuneration (DIR) programs often penalize pharmacies, RxTarget™ is built on a bonus-for-performance approach and focuses on quality measures that impact patient outcomes. Through one year of pilot testing, the RxTarget™ bonus-for-performance component has been proven to extend the adherence curve across all conditions, and it’s showing an increase in adherence by four points in some cases.
Based on CMS Star Ratings and executed using Darwin’s industry-leading reporting capabilities, this program allows pharmacies to contribute more meaningfully to health plans’ performance. By giving pharmacies access to a sophisticated online platform and the ability to prioritize and track members, the RxTarget™ program empowers and incentivizes pharmacies to make interventions, improve adherence, and deliver benefits for all parties involved.
